The difference between wealth and prosperity

I will speak to you here about balance, wealth, prosperity and wisdom and add thoughts about a few other things.

One of my rituals of gratitude that I use every morning and sometimes throughout my day is to breathe in deep breaths stating silently: “health, wealth, prosperity, and wisdom”. Then, I breathe out and silently state: “Thank you, thank you; thank you”; I do this for three times. (You will find me explaining this in other articles and in my workshops and seminars).

Did you notice that within the four words which I confess when breathing in, included are both wealth and prosperity? Some readers may think that I am professing, confessing and affirming the same thing when I use both wealth and prosperity in the same “mantra”; but I will tell you that they are indeed different and further, when you do not have both in your life that you are not in “balance”.

Using wisdom will tell you that if both words meant the same thing, that we would not have a reason for one of them. Let’s look at the *definition of both and I will then follow with an interesting story that illustrates my reasoning.

Wealth: a great quantity or store of money, valuable possessions, property, or other riches: the wealth of a city.

Prosperity: a successful, flourishing, or thriving condition, especially in financial respects; good fortune.

You’ll quickly see (I used the first of the definitions given for each) that they are a bit similar; but they are different. Note that wealth has to do more with “money” but prosperity has to do more with the “condition” of having everything; which includes money. If I were to choose, I’d want the later which includes everything, wouldn’t you?

LESSON: It’s impossible to experience prosperity if you don’t give. (So, what have you given today)? Pinterest with qr code to blog article.

In Wes Beavis’ book titled: Escape to Prosperity, he shares a story about a man who would cut the hair of Howard Hughes; who you may know was a billionaire. Although most of the barber’s customers would tip, Mr. Hughes never did. If you know anything about the story of this billionaire you would know that he lived his later life as a recluse and without having many friends. It (If you care to know more about  Howard Hughes, CLICK HERE). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Howard_Hughes This would tell us that he indeed had money, but not prosperity.

When author Beavis was making his point, that we need to give so that we prosper, he was speaking more about giving in the way of money as with tithing. But since prosperity has to do with money and overall abundance, we should give not only in the way of money but also in all areas such as time, talents and other areas. In the area of finances, when we give money we will receive money in return but it also returns back into our overall prosperity “bank”. When we give in the area of time, we’ll receive time (we’ll find that we’ll get more done with our time) in our prosperity bank, and so on.

Think of giving money as planting a money seed and harvesting a money vegetable just as when planting a tomato seed produces tomatoes. Likewise, when planting the seed of your time, perhaps by volunteering or helping a friend, you’ll produce the vegetable of time in return. Money and time are only two of your vegetables in your garden which is called “abundance” or prosperity. Money and time are just two vegetables in your garden called prosperity. Plant more seeds from all areas in your life (but do so in balance) and you’ll have a great garden of prosperity.

We could be like Howard Hughes and have money and still not be prosperous. We could have the money of a million millionaires and still be out of balance with our life because we would be rich in money but poor in our time, friends and relationships; and in all the other areas of what I call the Major 8 ™ in my Attainment Rules and my Living Life in Balance program.
