Some people have contacted me telling why they will not be attending this Facebook Live session I'll present on Sunday, January 20th. They may or may not realize that they are "making a choice" and not deciding is a decision. Which is fine, their choices are theirs and are what has created who they've become to this date. But I wonder, (and they need to decide for themselves) are these reasons or excuses?
When you continue to do what you've always done you'll continue to get what you've always got. This invitation is for those people who want to have a larger part in the change that will happen anyway, in their lives going forward.
I recently found a list of New Year Resolutions which people generally refer to as goals. Here are 10 of the most popular:
- Exercise more
- Lose weight
- Get organized
- Learn a new skill or hobby
- Live life to the fullest
- Save more money / spend less money
- Quit smoking
- Spend more time with family and friends
- Travel more
My friend, people give up on these because they are not goals, they are habits! They might be “sub-goals” but not main type goals which act as steps to your main destination. They are activities you do along the way. If the person you want to become is fit and healthy, you will exercise more, lose weight and quit smoking as a side benefit. If your goal is to climb a mountain, you will be exercising, you will then lose weight, and there are no convenience stores selling cigs on the way up.
What about sales goals, hiring goals or getting more traffic to your website? That’s great but what if your overall purpose is not sales, hiring or website ranking? People are creating goals in a job or business where they shouldn’t be or don’t even want to be involved in. So they succeed but aren’t happy; because they aren’t supposed to be in that job or business! But Ter, I have to be in this job or where I’m at because it pays the bills, etc.
I will tell you right now, that you think that job is “paying the bills” and if you are honest, you are living paycheck to paycheck. Do you want excuses, reasons or results?
Living your purpose will require you to change and if you are a chick breaking out of a shell, it will take work; at first, and then it will become easier I promise. All abundance will break out and you’ll wonder why you’ve waited so long to move toward your dream.
Your goal is not "the goal"; your dream is your goal
and the process you go through
with the signposts, you pass,
makes you the person
you need to be to realize that dream.

When you set these "goals", you may think you are moving forward, but at most you are standing still as life moves forward.
Most goals are too little; they don't move you to move you!
Ter Scott! The Life & Legacy Coach.
You are doing the goal achieving process forward, but it is really "backward" and that is one big reason why you are not achieving. Each small goal is a rung on a ladder and which you are hoping it will get you to the top but these rungs are many times not the right size for this ladder or strong enough and then, even if you are able to climb it, you find you are on top of the wrong building.
People succeed because they have direction, not goals.

Edison's Lightbulb Success Story.
We may think of Edison when we turn on a light but it was not Edison’s dream was not to create the light bulb, it was to be a great inventor. Creating the lightbulb was part of his life’s journey in becoming and living his dream of inventing. He knew who he was and what he was; and lived it, regardless if it paid the rent that month or not. Then he had an idea to invent the lightbulb, as part of his overall mission of being an inventor and then created sub goals to finish that project and then move on to another. He was still an inventor when he failed in creating the light bulb over 1,000 or 10,000 times (depending on which story you hear).
- Are you living your life inventing the light bulb instead of being a great inventor?
- Are you going home to work, work to home, 5 or 6 times a week or more doing something which is not on the path of your main purpose in life? Many people are.
If you are afraid to get out of the rut and follow your dream and life’s purpose, be sure to attend the Facebook Live session and we’ll discuss that. Vary your 9 to 5, home to work, rut route and explore your dream and slowly move toward it, instead of giving up and staying where and as you are. Break out of your cubicle and do what you are meant to do!
Getting to your grand destination is like a road trip.
People don’t get what they want; they don’t reach the destination because they need to know every step to take to get there.
Think of your destination, your vision, your dream, as a town or city and your goals as the landmarks, the building and semaphores along the way (semaphores and the red/yellow/green lights which most people think of as “stop lights” and I think of as “go” lights). Directions given to you are things like, go through this stoplight and you’ll pass a gas station on your right; turn there. Now you’ll go over a hill and a bridge after a few miles and you’ll see a sign. It’s a big red house.
So, the stop light, the gas station and the hill with the bridge are all goals which "happen" as you journey to your dream. What might be wrong with this “map” of directions?
- If you go through a stop light, you’ll probably get pulled over.
- These are someone else’s directions; not yours.
- If you have too many "stop" lights, you'll stop and stay put.
- And there are probably more that I can’t think of right now.
Bob Proctor says that you only need to know two things to reach your destination.
One, you need to know where you are going and know that you are going to get there.
When you know this, you put one foot in front of the other and move. You fall, you get up, you find an obstacle in your way, you find a way to get beyond it, you have someone tell you something defeating and you do not get defeated, you remain determined. This is all part of the process, part of the journey the signposts along the way to your destination, your vision, your dream, your BIG potential. IE: The reason you are living on this earth!
In our Facebook Live session together, I will help you to clarify your “there” which is your destination, your vision, your dream, your BIG potential. I'll help you to clarify to cement your belief in knowing that you’ll get there.
As you move forward in that “knowing” you won’t care if you have struggles, if you’ve lost a job or had some setback, or that you are only at lightbulb experiment number 500 out of a 1000 tries because you know that if you invent this lightbulb or not, you are still an inventor, if you get that singing gig or not, that you are still a singer, if you get that training job or not, that you are still a trainer, and that you know that you know you and your big vision is bigger than the goals which are the steps to the stairs which take you to achieve your dream.
In our Facebook time, we won’t discuss setting goals so much as we will identify your purpose, passion, and potential and then create the steps for you to get there and make sure they are congruent in doing so.
So, be sure to attend the Facebook Live session on January 20th, at 6 PM. It is a Sunday night and it may not be convenient to attend. But I will share with you that success is not built on convenience. When you register you’ll get my 7 Steps for Successful Goal Achievers and your invite to the private Facebook group where the Facebook Live session will take place. If you can’t attend, as long as you’ve registered, I think the replay will be on the membership site for a while. Give me some time to get your guide to you because I’m still working on it. I’ll get it to you prior to our 6 PM get together.

Let’s not just set goals, but get goals; those "big picture" goals which are truly meaningful to your overall purpose.
This is Ter Scott, the Life & Legacy Coach saying,
Make it a great day. And, see you Sunday!
PS. Life's answers are all around you and me. I remember Johnny Cash in the Walk the Line movie depicting his life. Remember how he "failed" miserably selling hardware? His heart wasn't in it because that wasn't his life purpose, his mission, his dream.
Remember how he wanted so badly to make a record that he was there every morning until Sam Philips finally said, "Yes, I'll listen"? Making that record can be considered a goal. Why? Because it was part of JR's overall dream. Making a sale as a door to door salesperson was important because it meant that his family could eat and he could pay rent. But making a sale was not a goal. Why? Because it was not a part of his overall Big Dream of being who and what he was supposed to be.
I see too many people (because I did it for so many years myself) who are trying to make sales, make a living, make things work and they struggle because what they are doing is not their calling in life. Let's change that Sunday night!
If Johnny Cash remained a salesperson, he may have become a better salesperson but the world would never have known him or made better by his gift. The world needs to know you and your gift. Let's make the world better, you and I.
Find out how on Sunday, January 20th at 6 PM Central.
